Electric Shavers Review
Choosing a good electric shaver isn't the easiest thing to do. The market today is filled with so many variants of electric shavers, each having their own features, that it is nearly impossible to get the whole picture. This electric shavers review will try to make it easier to get a better understanding and overview.
Basically there are two main types of shavers - Foil shavers and Rotary shavers.
Foil shavers work by using oscillating cutters behind a perforated screen to provide the shave. Some of the more advanced models have an integrated cutter on the head meant to take care of longer hairs.
Rotary shavers use spinning cutters on one or more floating heads. The design of the perforated screens are adapted to the circular motion of the cutters.
So which type is best? Opinions differ. Both types have their devotees.
Some say the rotary shavers are a little bit better when it comes to longer hairs and are less noisy than the foil shavers. On the other hand the Foil shavers seem to give a closer shave on the cheeks and chin. To get the same closeness with rotary shavers you must push the entire shaver body around in circles.
Another thing that matters is the design of the perforated screens closest to the skin. To be able to cut the hairs effectively every single hair has to be pushed through the holes or slots in the perforated screen. Much of the efficiency of the shaver lies in the design of the holes and slots, and manufacturers concentrate a lot on improving that.
As the perforated screens are very thin with close contact to the cutters they wear out and the cutters get dull. So they have to be replaced about once a year. It is often a good idea to buy replacement sets at the same time you buy the shaver as sometimes spare parts can be hard to find later on.
